“Solidarity comes back to this sense of difference that we can be among and be with, and not just tolerate.”
In this reflective interview, Humanities researcher Susannah Haslam speaks with Megha Ralapati, an art worker, writer, educator, and curator.
Ralapati discusses her role as an art worker who supports artists to develop their own practice. As the interview unfolds it passes through questions about work, carbon and solidarity, weaving in ideas about what constitutes success and learning, the requirement of “networks of circulation” and community, as well as the critical need to rewrite histories of world-making.
The Open Curriculum is an experimental alternative educational project. It puts love, dialogue, confidence, and coherence to work as observed and experienced qualities and capacities of art and education, toward critical reflection on what carbon literacy for arts workers means. The curriculum is composed of three subjects — carbon, solidarity, and work — offering a set of alternative routes to different forms of carbon literacy.
